Biography

Was born on December, 8, 1957 in Solntsevo, Moskovskaya Oblast.

Graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Road Institute, has a diploma of Higher Economic Courses of the USSR State Planning Committee. Speciality: civil engineer. Speaks fluent English

1976 - 1978: served in the Soviet Army.

1978 - 1981: chief technician, engineer at the All-Union Design and Scientific Research Institute of Industrial Transport under the State Planning Committee. 1981 - 1990: engineer, chief economist, chief specialist, section chief at the Department of Foreign Economic Relations under the RSFSR State Planning Committee.

1990-1991 - section chief of Administration of Foreign Economic Relations under the State Committee of Economy of RSFSR.

1991 - 1993: deputy chief of Administration, chief of Administration of Foreign Economic Activity, section chief of Combined Department of Foreign Economic Relations under the Ministry of Economics of the Russian Federation.

1993 - 1995: head of Department of Foreign Credits and Debt Burden, chief of Department of Foreign Credits and Debt Burden, member of the Board of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.

1995: Deputy Minister of the Finance of the Russian Federation. May 1999: Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation.

Since January, 2000: First Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation -Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation.

Since May, 2000: acting Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation - Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation.

Field of activity

The chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation:

Directly considers questions of the state organization, structure of federal enforcement authorities and their accordance with the tasks, questions of manpower policy and public service, designations concerning the competence of the Government of the Russian Federation, questions of national policy, legal reform, state policy in the field of science, industrial, scientific and technical policy, military cooperation with foreign states. The chairperson coordinates questions of military reform.

The chairperson supervises the activity of the RF Ministry on Atomic Energy, Ministry of Privity, Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies, the State Customs Committee of the Russian Federation, the Russian Fund for Federal Property. The chairperson supervises over the Commission of the Government of the Russian Federation on Military and Industrial questions, coordinates interaction between the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The chairperson provides within the framework of the competence of the Government of the Russian Federation coordination of work of federal enforcement authorities supervision over which is carried out by the President of the Russian Federation.
